Stein to run for Senate

Josh Stein plans to run for the state Senate next year.

The head of the consumer protection division in the attorney general's office, Stein said he will seek the seat held by Janet Cowell, who is running for the Democratic nomination for state treasurer, Rob Christensen reports.

Stein, a 40-year old Harvard-educated attorney, is no political neophyte. He managed John Edwards' successful Senate campaign in 1998 and then served in Washington as Edwards' deputy chief of staff and legal counsel.

Previously, he worked for the Self-Help Credit Union in Durham, where he handled real estate development in low-income areas for the non profit group.

Re: Stein to run for Senate

I think Josh Stein will bring a progressive spirit and strong sense of duty to the senate. It's very exciting news that he's taken this step toward representing us in Wake County and I'm looking forward to supporting him fully.

Re: Stein to run for Senate

I have known Josh Stein personally for a long time and am thrilled that he is seeking yet another way to serve the people of North Carolina. Josh Stein is a rare person: one who is both brilliant and completely dedicated to serving others. Too many politicians run to put feathers in their caps. Not Josh Stein. Josh has always chosen his work to improve the lives of others. He listens even when he disagrees. But he is also assertive and smart about getting things done. While others are angling to push hidden agendas, Josh is forthright and focused on getting the best result. Even if you are someone who might disagree with his political viewpoints, it’s nearly impossible to disagree with Josh Stein’s values and selfless leadership.
