Sexless Democrats for Perdue?

An alert reader argues the N.C. Poll doesn't add up.

The recent poll showed 35 percent of likely voters supporting Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue in the Democratic race for governor and 29 percent backing Treasurer Richard Moore.

But in crosstabs posted by Dome, the breakdown of women is 38 percent for Perdue and 32 percent for Moore, and for men is 37 percent, Perdue, and 43 percent, Moore. (See table 8-4 here.)

That's not quite right, a Moore backer argued in an e-mail to Dome. The treasurer couldn't get 32 percent of men and 37 percent of women and still end up with only 29 percent of both genders.

That means the table is either wrong, or there's a large group of sexless Democratic voters out there who support Perdue...

Note: A reader says my wording is a little flip. I didn't intend to offend anyone in the transgender community. My apologies.

Re: Sexless Democrats for Perdue?

How about:

--A one-woman, one-man race?
--A one-man, one-woman race?

Who says The N&O's copy desk won't be having fun in '08?

Re: Sexless Democrats for Perdue?

With Beverly Perdue and Richard Moore getting off to such a good start in the developing Democratic primary for governor in 2008, how does Dome choose to characterize the race at this point:

--A good two-person race?
--A one-woman bid with one man contesting the outcome?
--A one-man bid with one woman contesting the outcome?
--A good old-fashioned "man-and-woman" contest?

Presumbly with political correctness still nipping at the heels of American journalism, some additional stylistically awkward but technically accurate phrases wil be in the offing.

God forbid you offend some non-existent hermaphroditic voters by referring in jest to non-existent asexual beings (which, I shouldn't even have to explain is not the same thing). You're a much more patient man that I, Ryan. I admire your reserve and patience in the face of such censorious readers.
