The State Employees Association of North Carolina wants a bigger raise.
But it's also pushing for better health care, retirement benefits and union organizing rights for state employees.
More than 250 representatives of the 55,000-member union are walking the halls of the General Assembly today, arguing for their legislative agenda. It includes:
* A five-percent pay raise for all state employees.
* No cost increases for state employees in their health plan.
* Repeal of a state statute that prohibits public employees from collective bargaining.
Wake Rep. Ty Harrell and Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue, both Democrats, are joining with the union's lobbying today.
