Rudy's lunch

Former New York City mayor Rudolph Giuliani is slated to speak at a conservative luncheon in Raleigh in a few minutes.

Dome is live-blogging here at the Oak Forest Room of the downtown Sheraton. We had been told he would be speaking with reporters afterward, but that has been cancelled. His handlers say his plane is running late.

About 300 people are here for the annual North Carolina Leadership Conference sponsored by the John William Pope Civitas Institute, a Raleigh think tank.

Three Republican gubernatorial candidates — Fred Smith, Bill Graham and Bob Orr — will be speaking this weekend, as will U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole, the governor of South Carolina and a bevy of other representatives, including U.S. Rep. Heath Shuler, a Democrat.

We'll post updates throughout the weekend. Stay tuned.

Re: Rudy's lunch

I have several friends in attendance at the seminar. It will be interesting to compare the N&O's version to what is actually said.

Any similarities will be accidental I'm sure.
