Perdue: The non-candidate

Beverly Perdue is not yet running for governor.

The lieutenant governor's staff patiently explains that she has not announced any campaign for any higher office whenever Dome calls.

Of course, that's not stopping Perdue from raising $1.3 million, setting up a preliminary Web site or touting her poll numbers to supporters.

Peter Reichard, finance director for The Bev Perdue Committee, sent out an e-mail this afternoon to supporters copying poll results cited in Dome earlier today that showed her ahead of Treasurer Richard Moore among Democrats.

"There is a long way to go until the primary in May and early polls are going to continue to bounce around," he wrote. "However, one thing is clear — Bev Perdue is the frontrunner to win the Democratic nomination for governor."

Once she's running, that is.
