Beverly Perdue led a poll of state employees.
The State Employees Association of North Carolina poll showed that 47 percent of its members said they would support the lieutenant governor in the Democratic gubernatorial primary, compared to 32 percent for her rival, state Treasurer Richard Moore.
On a separate question, 20 percent or fewer of the members were familiar with the Republican candidates, Salisbury attorney Bill Graham, former state Supreme Court Justice Bob Orr and state Sen. Fred Smith, Mark Johnson of the Charlotte Observer reports.
As noted yesterday, the pollster, Hart Research Association, also works for Perdue's campaign.
SEANC is traditionally aligned with Democratic candidates, although it bucked tradition in 2004 when it endorsed Republican Patrick Ballantine for governor. He lost to Gov. Mike Easley.
