With Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue set to receive the endorsement of the N.C. Association of Educators Saturday, her chief Democratic rival sought to upstage her.
State Treasurer Richard Moore’s campaign announced this afternoon the formation of School Personnel for Moore, reports Rob Christensen.
The group of 100 members is being co-chaired by Bud Case of Lake Toxaway and Nell Hunnicutt of Carolina Beach.
“As state treasurer," Hunnicutt said, “Richard grew our retirement system to the second best in the nation.”

September 29, 2007 - 1:12am — ProctorImagine a debating class in the North Carolina public schools in which the teacher says, "Never mind giving your debate speech--I am going to give you a grade on how I think you would do if you did debate."
What?
Likewise, the NCAE is remiss in failing to wait until at least one good debate among the actual declared gubernatorial candidates before making an endorsement. Teachers need more public support from local governments and the people of North Carolina, and acting like the public arena for campaigning doesn't matter hardly enables the NCAE to assist teachers in this quest for greater support and cooperation.
At least the NCAE isn't going to try to begin the Thanksgiving break before Halloween, but they have given the goblins a head start on evaluating the candidates for governor.

September 28, 2007 - 6:56pm — sunday47How many times have candidates tried to create rump groups to diminish NCAE, but they only fuel the conviction from NCAE leaders that they made the right choice. Teachers and education employees support Bev Perdue because she has supported them. These handful of retirees who support Richard Moore should remember that they received the lowest cost-of-living raises under Moore. They did not even get the 80% of state employees' raises as they have been promised. Richard Moore stayed silent. When Bev Perdue was Chair of Appropriations, she championed raises for retirees. This is one member of the NC Retirement System who is not fooled, I am supporting Bev Perdue.
