Moore on comm. college memo

Richard Moore does not think illegal immigrants should study at the state's community colleges.

In a meeting with reporters, the state treasurer said that he does not support a recent decision by the top lawyer of the state community college system to require schools to admit undocumented applicants.

"I don't think that illegal aliens should be allowed to partake in community college classes," he said. "I don't think any ruling or any write-up ever really said that, and if it did, it was wrong."

A former prosecutor, he said he has a "tough time getting around the illegal part" of illegal immigration.

"This is a nation of laws and we have to abide by the law," he said.

Moore serves as an ex officio member of the state community college system board.

Previously: Fred Smith, Bill Graham disagree with the decision.
