Mintz for treasurer

A Raleigh businessman is running for state Treasurer.

Chris Mintz, president of Mintz Investment Companies, announced he will run this week, saying he hoped to maintain the state's credit rating, protection the state employees' retirement fund and push North Carolina companies to operate in "an environmentally friendly manner."

In a statement, he also said he would push for financial education:

"Our children should leave high school knowing how to manage debt and keep good financial records so that they can prepare for their future."

In 2006, Mintz ran for the Democratic nomination for state House District 41, losing to Rep. Ty Harrell in the primary amid criticism for switching parties. (He previously was chairman of the Wake County Republican Men's Club.)

And yes, he plans to run for the Democratic nomination for treasurer.

OMG how ironic is it that he is going to be running in a primary against State Representative Jim Harrell (a real Democrat!) who is also running for Treasurer.

Given Mr Mintz's questionable past financial history and the current magnified antagonism against corruption and opportunism in politics, how can he even consider a run for state treasurer?

I hope he has his asbestos suit on.

Mintz is a Democrat sort of like Joe Lieberman is a Democrat . . . just because he filled out a form claiming to be blue, doesn't make it so.

You might want to do a little homework on the many faces of Mr. Mintz.

he was chair of the Western Wake Republican Party until the day he declared for the Democratic primary.

He also would often make mistakes in saying which party he was trying to represent at campaign events.

What a political opportunist. Am I the only one that sees picture of Mintz with wet finger in the air? The ones that try to annoint themselves are the worse kind of pol.
