Meek protests Merritt's PSA

Les MerrittDemocrats say Les Merritt's ad is self-serving.

Although the state auditor does not appear in the public service announcements, N.C. Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Meek said they promote the Republican's 2008 re-election campaign, Dan Kane reports.

"My concern is that he is using public funds to run an ad that appropriates his campaign slogan from the last election," Meek said. "By putting 'The Taxpayers' Watchdog' on the ad, he is attempting to reinforce a campaign slogan that he used in the last election and continues to use on his campaign web site."

Merritt's campaign Web site refers to him as "The Taxpayers' Watchdog" and prominently features a photo of a bulldog, as does the public service announcement.

Re: Meek protests Merritt's PSA

This is just a laughable partisan attack. Merritt does not even appear in the ads. I watched them a couple of times and did not hear his name mentioned.
