Jones, not Jonestown

Walter JonesU.S. Rep. Walter Jones said he's not worried about a primary fight.

In an article in the Los Angeles Times, the Farmville Republican said he is not concerned about losing the 2008 primary to county commissioner Joe McLaughlin because of his stance against the Iraq war.

"The Kool-Aid drinkers, those who don't know the truth, who only hear the half-truths and the opinions of a Rush Limbaugh, they believe it. But I know too many" voters, Jones said. "When my days end in Congress, I would rather be able to say I did what was right for America, rather than my party did this, my party did that."

McLaughlin, whose campaign signs say "Support the Troops," was greeted warmly by the Crystal Coast Republican Men's Club at a fish fry, the story notes.
