Bill Graham and Fred Smith are still angry about a decision to allow illegal immigrants to study at the state's community colleges.
In an interview with WCNC Thursday, Graham said that illegal immigrants will take up spots that could go to North Carolina residents, although community colleges don't have enrollment caps.
"Workers in our area need these precious spots in the community college system for retraining," he said. "It is critical that we have priorities set so that workers born here, that are citizens, have the opportunity to engage in retraining in the community college system."
Meantime, Smith released a statement calling for a special session of the legislature to reverse the decision, if necessary, and calling on Gov. Mike Easley, Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue and Attorney General Roy Cooper to undo the decision.
"How can a state government organization take the position that some laws just don't count?" he said. "If we disagree with the laws, then we work to get them changed. We don't simply ignore them."

The sky is falling!
Oh. My. God. We now have 340 (out of 200,000+) students in community colleges who are not in the country legally. They are paying out of state tuition, and are quite literally subsidizing students who are citizens. Mr. Graham cannot cite one piece of evidence that any NC citizen has ever been denied the opportunity to enroll the system as a result of this policy.
But hey, it's good politics to demonize the sons and daughters of illegal immigrants who have been the backbone of labor for Fred Smith's construction industry over the past two decades.
These two panderers make me sick.
