Graham on comm. college memo

Bill Graham opposes allowing illegal immigrants to study at state community colleges.

The Republican gubernatorial candidate told Dome that he does not agree with a decision by the top lawyer for the state community college system to require schools to admit undocumented applicants.

"I think it's an absurd policy," he said. "I don't think we should be providing a state-subsidized higher education program for people who shouldn't be here in the first place."

Graham said he does not oppose foreign citizens studying at state colleges as long as they've received the proper visas, but he does not think the schools should "take a blind eye" to immigration.

He said he does not know how widespread the practice is, but it does not matter.

"If it's wrong for one student," he said, "it's wrong for all."
