GOP's top spot

State Republicans overwhelmingly reelected Linda Daves as chairwoman.

At the state convention Saturday, Daves won two-thirds of the vote from the 900 delegates. A longtime vice chair, she was promoted to the top spot on Election Day.

A Charlotte resident, she received a boost from the 120 delegates from Mecklenburg County. (Char-O)

Her opponent, Marcus Kindley, was the former chairman of the Guilford County Republican Party. He did well in rural counties, but split his own hometown's vote.

He vowed to continue working for the party:

"I'm not going to fade into the furniture," Kindley said. (GN-R)
