Fri 10/5 - Sun 10/7: Watch for nighttime delays on westbound I-40 this weekend

This weekend: Weather permitting, Lane Construction Corp. will reduce parts of WESTBOUND I-40 to one lane each night, so crews can install imbedded reflective pavement markers that won't get kicked up by snow plows next winter.

Backups of up to two miles are possible each night in these locations --

* Friday Oct 5: WESTBOUND from NC 147 Durham Freeway (Exit 279) to NC 55 (Exit 278), 8pm-8am.

* Saturday Oct 6: WESTBOUND from NC 55 (Exit 278) to Fayetteville Road (Exit 276), 8pm-8am.

* Sunday Oct 7: WESTBOUND from Fayetteville Road (Exit 276) to NC 54 (Exit 273), 8pm-6am.

This work was scheduled to last until next May, but it's almost finished. Lane has completed the pavement repair and is expected to finish installing markers by the middle of next week, ending nighttime lane-closings in time for the State Fair (which starts Friday, Oct. 12, in Raleigh.)

How was it for you, especially compared with the delays involved in previous I-40 work? Please email me: bruce.siceloff@newsobserver.com.
