EMILY's List has endorsed Lt. Gov. Beverly Perdue for governor.
The political action committee works to elect pro-choice Democratic women in the United States through its network of 100,000 local advocates across the country.
"Bev Perdue is the kind of effective and accomplished leader who has again and again proven her ability to provide real positive change for the people of North Carolina," said EMILY's List founder Ellen Malcolm in a statement.
She said Perdue has been "a role model and champion for women and families."
Perdue said she was "honored" to receive the endorsement.
"I am also very aware — and proud — of the message that our campaign sends to girls and young women throughout North Carolina. You can accomplish anything if you work hard and get a good education," added Perdue.
