Easley vetoes Goodyear bill

Gov. Mike Easley this morning vetoed legislation that would have given Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. as much as $40 million to upgrade its plant in Fayetteville.

Easley’s action came a day after he proposed his own measure to give incentives to manufacturers that agree to modernize plants and maintain employment, reports Jonathan B. Cox.

The proposal, which Easley wants lawmakers to take up next year, would not require employers to create new jobs.

Glad to see this.

When the lefties and the right-wing fringe come together to agree on something like this, it's a good sign.
