Dukes of Haggard

Presidential candidate John Edwards is not writing off the Merle Haggard vote.

At a Feb. 12 concert in Spokane, Wash., the craggy country star debuted a new song, "Hillary," with the lyrics: "The country needs to be honest / Change needs to be large / Something like a big switch of gender / Let's put a woman in charge."

The Clinton endorsement is not stopping Edwards from courting his fans, though.

Donors who contribute $50 or more to Edwards' presidential campaign will receive an advance copy of "Moneyland," a compilation of songs about rural America.

The CD includes a duet by Haggard and Marty Stuart called "Farmer's Blues."

It's not quite as uplifting as Clinton's song: "The tractor's broke, the fence is down / Put on my suit and go to town / And ask for a loan, that I know well, they might refuse."
