Some Democrats would love to see Roy Cooper take on U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Dole.
In a post on the BlueNC group blog, writer Nate Denny argues that the state attorney general's handling of the Duke lacrosse case only added to his experience:
Consider the resume: a well-known prosecutor who’s won two statewide races for attorney general. As a tough-on-crime attorney general, Cooper is in the best possible position for a federal candidate in the South. Assuming that Gov. Easley isn't willing to run, Cooper is the only potential Senate candidate who’s won statewide more than once — including Dole herself.
Cooper has already opted out of the governor's race and has said he enjoys being state attorney general. For now, the top Democrat mulling a Senate race is U.S. Rep. Brad Miller.

Re: Draft Coop?
Elizabeth Dole can be beaten and Roy Cooper would be the person to do it. His handling of the Duke Lacrosse case displayed all the positive characteristics of the type leader we sorely need. I hope he runs!
