A party award

Who knew that hanging out with your buds and drinking a few Buds before a football game could be a winnning political strategy?

But the Wake County Young Republicans won the National Event of the Year Award at the Young Republicans National Convention in Florida for their GOP Tailgate Contest.

The contest encouraged Republican football fans in North Carolina to host Republican-themed tailgate parties before college and NFL football games in 2006.

"It just goes to show that the political arena is ready for some new, innovative ideas,” said Dave Reynolds, chairman of the Wake County Young Republicans and creator of the GOP Tailgate Contest.

Re: Shame on the Young Republicans

Sounds like someone lost their high school election and never got over it…

What a great way to get more NORMAL people involved in a campaign and politics. ‘Bout time the GOP figured out that they need a new approach and need to start getting some other people involved. Good to see us getting back to our grassroots!

Looks like the Young Republicans in NC are not a dead organization any more. Welcome Back. Good Job YRs! The NORMAL Republicans are with you!

Re: A party award

Or if they are so proud to be damned republicans maybe they could enlist in the service and go help the cause they so adamantly support...

Shame on the Young Republicans

They held this crazy stunt the weekend before Raleigh city council elections. Instead of partying, they could have been working like everyone else in the party did. We needed their help with the mid-term elections!

I am disappointed in the Wake YRs. What were they thinking? I guess it's nice to win an award from your national organization, but for what gain? More beer?

Re: A party award

Although I think it's a great idea, I'm sure Coy Privette's republican front organization The Christian Action League would have not approved.
